Billing itself as a “lost slasher film from the 70’s,” Headless follows the exploits of The Killer (Shane Beasley) as he kills and decapitates women while being followed/prompted by a young boy in a skull mask (Kaden Miller). When The Killer’s past life comes back to haunt him, he loses it even more and sets his sights on Jess (Kelsey Carlisle) and the people she loves most. I’ve seen plenty of slasher films in my time; Headless definitely ranks in my top three. Hell, it might even be number one. What sets Headless miles above other slasher fare is the sheer nihilistic depravity of the proceedings. Not since Angst (1983) have we seen a killer this twisted. Not only does The Killer dispatch his victims indiscriminately, but he does so with a sexual revelry you’d be hard-pressed to find in most other slashers: he doesn’t just kill people, he does so with all the gusto of a man finally bedding the woman of his dreams. One scene has The Killer screwing a woman with a machete, yet moaning and groaning as though the machete and his penis are one. The Killer then decapitates the woman and has sex with her head until orgasm. And who said horror films can’t be art!?
