Review: Director Raj Chakraborty’s Bolo Dugga Mai Ki starts well enough, but is soon let down by an average script, direction and vision. The film begins with Shyamo’s (Ankush) grandfather (Paran Bandopadhyay) celebrating his academic achievements with great fervour. But he is soon made to realise that all his feats are duplicitous as Shyamo is more interested in partying than pora-shona. These opening scenes set up what could have been a far superior movie, but ends up fizzling into a generic comedy.Ankush does a laudable job as the protagonist and his prowess as a comic actor has come up by leaps and bounds. His expressions, comic timing and body language all hit the spot. An example of this is all the slapping in the movie. Getting slapped is never fun, but here, slaps are used as physical comedy. Almost everyone slaps Ankush constantly. Grandfather slaps him, friends slap him, goons slap him and we almost feel sorry for the poor guy getting battered by all and sundry.Nusrat, as the female lead, only makes her appearance towards the end of the first half and plays a hapless girl betrayed by her ex-boyfriend. She too does a commendable job and looks gorgeous in traditional Bengali attire. However, the script barely lets her stand up on her own and make her presence felt.
