Review: Everyone is a filmmaker at heart and anyone can make a film if they put their will to it, the makers of Cinema Bandi try to tell us. One look at the characters living in Gollapally village, where the film is based, and the last thing you’d expect is for them to make a film. And yet, a motley bunch of villagers gather around and try make a film against all odds.
Cinema Bandi focuses on auto driver Veera (Vikas Vasistha), an eternal optimist who keeps trying to raise the spirits of his fellow villagers when they constantly complain about bad roads and lack of rainfall. While his fellow villagers long for a life in the city, Veera argues that if everyone migrates to the city, who will make things better for the village? Things take a dramatic turn when Veera finds a high-end camera in his auto. Inspired by a TV programme which suggests that anyone can make a film, Veera gathers his friends and decides to make a movie. The filmmaking process is a complete roller coaster ride and the highs and lows that the characters go through while making the film is a joy to watch. Even though the villagers initially make fun of Veera’s idea of making a film, gradually they join him in the process and help out with suggestions. Soon, his film becomes the village’s film.
