Review: It’s often said that films hold up a mirror to society. But only a handful can do it like Mukherjee Dar Bou. Every woman — mother, daughter, mother-in-law — will connect on a deep level with this modern-day beauty of a family drama. It reminds you that every big picture is but a collection of seemingly inconsequential dots — dots that actually define how beautiful or ugly the overall picture is. And obviously, every dot matters. These dots are the actions and words that make up our everyday lives — those almost mechanical aspects of our personality that define how we act or react under different circumstances. And little do we imagine that even the most inconsequential of actions can leave an indelible scar on someone else’s mind. The beauty of the film lies not in dwelling on these scars, but in showing a way how even such stubborn scars can be wiped off with a pinch of understanding and love. It’s about repairing human relationships one step at a time. And in today’s world, when ‘I’s dominate our lives, it’s reminds us how ‘we’ can solve a lot of problems.
But even the most beautiful stories need to be told right. And that’s exactly what Pritha has done. She has woven a simple web with a handful of powerful characters and let them carry you along on their journey towards a better life. And the really powerful performances by Koneenica, Anusuya Majumdar and Aparajita make the film a treat to watch. Anushuya and Koneenica’s expressions and body language are so bang on that you can’t imagine them to be anyone else but Mukherjeedar bou senior and junior. Aparajita, who has a smaller role to play in the scheme of things, does a great job as usual. And Rituparna and Biswanath have supported the core characters beautifully.
