The film is set in 1956 France. Sister Irene (Farmiga), now serving in a convent in Italy, has a vision of Maurice (Bloquet), a handyman at a girl’s boarding school in France, being murdered by a demonic nun. She is asked by the Cardinal to investigate the murders, and she travels to France with Sister Debra (Reid), a young novice.

In Tarascon, the town where the murders took place, Irene and Debra meet Maurice, who is still alive but traumatized by the events. They also meet Sophie (Katelyn Rose Downey), a young Irish girl who is being bullied by the other students.Irene and Debra soon discover that the murders are being committed by Valak, the same demon nun who haunted them in the first film. Valak is trying to open a portal to hell, and Irene and Debra must stop her before it’s too late.The film was released in theaters on September 16, 2023. It received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising the performances and visuals, while others criticized the plot and scares.
