“Shrinking” may sound like a typical indie comedy about a therapist who learns that good advice is easier said than done, but the Apple TV+ series goes beyond its quirky premise and proves to be a must-watch. Created by Brett Goldstein, Bill Lawrence, and Jason Segel, the show centers around Segel’s character, a therapist who starts to work outside of the textbook and faces challenges in applying his advice to his own life.Shrinking Season 1 Download.
While the show does have the expected Starbucks rock soundtrack and comfortable comedy elements, it stands out for its distinct characters who are all works in progress, including the professionals. Segel’s therapist character is initially a bit dire, relying on easy Segel-isms and a pitch of “Bad Therapist” that shows him as a wounded party animal with little professional composure. However, as the show progresses, we see him grow and evolve, working to mend the relationships in his personal and professional life.
What sets “Shrinking” apart is its thoughtful balance between quirkiness and character development. The show has a good grasp of its thoughtful quirkiness, but it also knows when to let its characters run free. Everyone on the show has a problem that has become their weak spot, and as allegiances change throughout the series, we see them work towards growth and mending the interconnected relationships that require attention.Even when things seem to be coming together for Segel’s character, he still struggles with his strained relationship with his daughter and the challenges of being a single parent. Meanwhile, his gruff superior, played by Harrison Ford, is dealing with a Parkinson’s diagnosis that he’s kept hidden from his daughter.
